PROFESSOR ELIZABETH BLACKBURN
Public Lecture
Melbourne, Tuesday, 2 March 2010
Telomerase is an enzyme made up of RNA and protein that builds and stabilises telomeres, the ends of chromosomes. During ageing, telomere length decreases, an effect that is slowed down by telomerase. Most cancer cells have high telomerase activity. Our goal is to understand the mechanism of telomere action.
